Police officers are not trained for the work that they actually do

This article from Vox

digs deep into the disconnect between police training and the work that they actually do. I am currently working on an appeal to the Montana Supreme Court that deals with this very subject. Officers were called to respond to a person threatening suicide. Instead of treating him as someone experiencing a mental health crisis, they treated him as a suspect in a crime. Had they responded appropriately to the situation, the outcome could have been much different.

We train police to be warriors — and then send them out to be social workers

The fatal mismatch at the heart of American policing.
